I'd like an extra serving of Thankful Please.

November 25, 2019

Although it may have started back in September when the CVS began to display its winter holiday decorations, Thanksgiving traditionally kicks off the holiday season.

Let's be honest. It is challenging not to get caught up with the "noise" of the season and forget that every day is a gift.

As we think about what we are all thankful for, let's also think about how can we be thankful every day. Not easy, but worth the effort.

I say we call it a Thankful practice as we are practicing being thankful with the goal to increase our thankfulness ability.

Yes, this could also be a mindful/grateful and other practice as well, but since its Thanksgiving, I say let's call it Thankful practice.

Let's identify something evident in our world and see how we can be thankful for it

Here I will go first.

After spending an incredible time in Africa, I am genuinely, honestly thankful for potable water, flushing toilets, and decent wifi.

Every day I use one of these, and it truly adds incredible value to my life

What about other prominent aspects of your lives?

Member/customers. Just that you have them? Or that they are the reason your organization was created?

Co-workers - both the ones you like and the ones you don't. The ones you like help enrich your lives and the ones you don't maybe help you strengthen your tolerance muscle

Family. Friends - both the ones present and those not. Family can put the fun in dysfunction this time of year, perhaps just being thankful you have them.

Homes/cars/technology - all of these things we may take for granted, take a moment, and think about what your life would be without them.

Food - this may be the reason for the season for some, whatever, and however you have food this Thanksgiving, take a moment to be thankful that you have it.

However you are celebrating this holiday, my wish for you is that you are able to enjoy it with a side of thankful.
